Kate Dowling Jewelry Design

This brooch was modeled using Rhino 5.0, 3-D printed with a Solidscape wax printer, and cast in sterling silver with a centrifugal casting machine. The body and eyes of the bug were polished and the head and legs were textured with diamond burs. The pin mechanism was modeled onto the back of the brooch, with the exception of the steel pin, which was then added after the casting process. The colors of the eyes and wings were achieved by mixing liquid resin with differently colored pastels and dry pigments. After the resins were poured and cured, and stones were set and the piece was finished!
